Lena Jackson,LCSW,C.A.G.S., a licensed college guidance counselor and IEI Dorm Leader, offers our Interns a special college planning programme entitled “The IEI Advantage.” The series of three workshops will help Interns use their IEI summer experience to maximum advantage in the college application and interview process and beyond. Topics include college planning (with a timeline for juniors and seniors), taking a campus tour, interview dos and don’ts, and writing the admissions essay. Lena also has information to share from several admissions officers at prestigious colleges. The workshops, held during evenings when there are no other scheduled activities, are optional and free. Students have reported that the programme was interesting, valuable and a fun way to meet other people on the programme. “The IEI Advantage meeting was extremely helpful. I got a layout of the basic requirements for college as well as information about what various colleges look for in applicants. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the meeting; it was not at all overwhelming like many college prep meetings can be. Lena was a great proctor: She knew both the social worker and the college counselor’s sides of the college-searching madness that I’m about to walk into. The meeting was held at a convenient time, when otherwise we would’ve been eating or just laying around. This felt so much more productive!”M.
