In a series of three engaging workshops, Interns will learn how to use their IEI summer experience to maximum advantage in the college application and interview process and beyond.
This special college planning course was designed by Lena Jackson, LCSW, C.A.G.S., a licensed college guidance counselor. Topics include setting a timeline for the junior and senior year, making the most of a campus tour, interview do’s and don’ts, writing the admissions essay, and what to do if you are put on a waitlist. Course materials include articles on pertinent topics written by educational consultant Joyce Reed of College Goals, former Associate Dean of the College, Brown University and nationally recognized expert.
The workshops, held during evenings when there are no other scheduled activities, are optional and free. Students have reported that the programme was interesting, valuable and a great way to get to know their fellow Interns. “The IEI Advantage meeting was extremely helpful. I got a layout of the basic requirements for college as well as information about what various colleges look for in applicants. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere of the meeting; it was not at all overwhelming like many college prep meetings can be. Lena was a great proctor: She knew both the social worker and the college counselor’s sides of the college-searching madness that I’m about to walk into. The meeting was held at a convenient time, when otherwise we would’ve been eating or just laying around. This felt so much more productive!”M.
