If you're interested in a meaningful, hands-on medical experience, consider a Medical Internship. Gain clinical laboratory experience while you examine biopsies and evaluate blood work. Medical Interns shadow closely the hospital and clinic staff at St. Thomas' Hospital, St. Bartholomew's Hospital or Hammersmith Hospital.Over the four weeks, I was exposed to a variety of fields in clinical chemistry. I observed closely the heads of many different labs, from endocrinology to andrology to oncology. I participated in allergy testing and testosterone counts, prepared samples for the AutoLab, helped with quality control for blood gas tests, and attended weekly seminars where doctors presented case studies of their most interesting patients. In the neonatal ward I got a peek at a 23-week-old baby weighing 600 grams. I also got a tour of the Milk Bank -- the first in the UK. It was a great experience.S.Perl, Englewood Cliffs, NJ; Medicine Intern |
