You can make an important difference in someone's life during your month-long internship, which is ideal for students interested in sociology, psychology or teaching.
Community Services/Social Services Mainstream
If you are interested in working with mainstream children, you can choose an Internship at the Hungerford Primary School, which serves an ethnically diverse community of 400 children of nursery and elementary school age. Hungerford Primary School is a community where individual talents, abilities and personalities are valued. You’ll get hands-on experience in the classroom as a teacher’s assistant.
Community Services/Social Services Special Needs If you want to work with children with special needs, you can be assigned to the Bridge School, where you’ll learn about and assist in the daily life of special needs individuals of various ages who are globally delayed or physically or emotionally challenged. By helping with physical, art, music or recreational therapy, you'll participate in the goal of returning these individuals to mainstream living. "My Internship is harder than I thought it would be, but I’ve come to realize that the challenge actually makes it a more meaningful experience. Working with children with disabilities can be frustrating, but seeing the growth you’ve helped to bring out puts warmth in your heart."M. Tromley, El Cajon, CA; Community/Social Services Intern |
