A Great Team of Tutors Chantal Gagnon, Fashion & Design
Cavendish College had a great Fashion & Design Workshop set up for us. Our tutors took time to get to know what each student wanted to get out of the program. Their attentiveness helped us accomplish our goals.
Fong Wong took us to fabric and bead shops and showed us how to cut fabric and how to make a simple tote bag unique. Fong always came to class relaxed and smiling. From Roger Dearden we learned how to draw figure, faces, poses and clothing. He also showed us how to illustrate the textures and lines of different fabrics. Roger could always find a kind way to tell us what looked awkward in our drawings so we that could improve. Pat Parish taught us how to source ideas, create a sketchbook, develop a journal, and do research. We also learned pattern cutting. Pat’s enthusiasm helped us develop print ideas, design a range of clothes and create a theme. Last but not least, Jo Love was great at showing us various techniques and how the equipment works. She was also very patient and helpful when it came time to print our shirts.
We have learned a great deal about fashion and ourselves in this course. I’ll definitely use the skills and techniques I’ve learned to improve my artwork. This has turned out to be a summer to remember.
