Confirming My Interest Simeen Johal, Veterinary Medicine At my Internship, I was asked to do a number of things that furthered my exposure to veterinary medicine. The tasks began as simple jobs, such as doing laundry, cleaning kennels, taking the dogs to the bathroom, and mopping the floors. Within a week’s time, I was drawing up medicine, assisting the vet during surgeries, developing x-rays, helping the nurses draw blood, and running blood tests in the lab. I sat in on consultations and observed surgeries, including a thyroidectomy, castration, spaying and dental cleaning. Going into this Internship, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to be a veterinarian, but now I am almost positive that this is what I want to do. |
