Making Connections Jenna Kahn, Community Services/Social Services It has been inspiring and fascinating to see the teachers connect with the students in my class, who are very low functioning. They have difficulty concentrating for extended periods of time and cannot communicate verbally. I had the opportunity to work in another class one day, and I saw how the teachers’ methods differ. They gear their game plan toward each student individually and, therefore, all the teachers seem to employ different methods. It amazes me that despite the difficulties of the students, the teachers come in every day with smiling faces. I was able to connect with the students as well. It is a great feeling to know that you are the reason someone else smiled or laughed. It makes you happier. |
