A Day in the Life Melissa Karter, Hotel Management
A day in the life of a sales manager at the Four Seasons Hotel London: I wake up at 8 a.m. and put on my black pants and a white collared shirt. Then I slip on my flats, which would normally give me blisters if I hadn’t pushed down the back and transformed them into slip-ons. I grab my blazer that I bought for £10 at a market and head out toward Hyde Park Corner.
My day starts off with a meeting about the upcoming events for the week, such as “Mr. Mohammed Al Thani is coming to stay for 18 days and we need to write him a warm welcome letter.” Then I go around the office and ask what needs to be done. Sometimes I have to research other hotels like the Ritz, because they are one of our competitors. Once, I calculated the top 10 companies and travel agencies that gave the Four Seasons “The Most Room Revenue” in June.
Then, I get to go down to the canteen for a delicious and FREE lunch. Fridays is fish and chips. The evening tops off with a bunch of shredding, copying and organizing. This experience has truly familiarized me with each facet of the hotel industry. I never realized how much work is involved. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience at the Four Seasons in London.
