Harry Potter Mania
Liza Patinkin, Publishing

This summer was the perfect time to work at Bloomsbury Publishing, because of the excitement around the release of the final Harry Potter book. I got to see how they dealt with such a huge and popular book. The Interns put together 1,700 goody bags for the midnight release at the Natural History Museum, where J.K. Rowling was signing books. During a lunch break I went with co-workers to the biggest Waterstone’s bookstore to see people lined up and dressed up. People have never been this obsessed with any other book series!

The first day at Bloomsbury, I was given a manuscript to read and report on. I have also edited an “about the author” section of a book. Next week I am going to look through sections of a quiz book that is being published for Christmas. I have sat in on meetings, which allowed me to see how the company actually works. I definitely enjoy my job and all of my co-workers, who are very helpful and nice.
