After breakfast in the dorm, you’ll head off to your Internship placement or Cavendish College. Some Interns walk to work; others take the Tube or the bus. Most Interns generally work with their preceptor from 9 to 5, while Media & Design participants work from 10 to 4:30. At lunch, you can go out with your co-workers, arrange to meet another Intern at a nearby sandwich shop, or have a quick bite and explore the neighborhood. When you return to the dorm, you have many choices: There are tennis and squash courts, jogging, a health club, and laundry! After dinner with your friends in the Halls of Residence, you might be off to the theatre, a rock concert, an RA-led activity, or have time to explore with your new friends. Read the Journal Entries to get a glimpse into a typical day. "I come from a quiet suburb of Philadelphia, so the huge city of London was a whole new world to me. At home, my high school is around the corner, but every place else is far enough away that my car has become essential. However, here in London, I can go anywhere, anytime (almost).A typical Friday night in Villanova is spent sitting around trying to decide what to do and ending up either at a late night movie or a friend’s house. In central London there is never a dull moment. Between my Internship, going to the theatre, eating frozen yogurt in Leicester Square and spotting Jude Law on my way to dinner, I am always occupied. I find myself in my dorm room at night struggling to keep my eyes open in order to make progress in my summer reading. At home, I am wide awake at 2 or 3 a.m. going stir crazy with nothing to do. I will miss the lively atmosphere and constant activity of London as I return home to the (relatively) quiet Main Line. I will also miss the ease with which I have come to be able to travel around London and the convenience of the amazing public transportation system here. From now on, I will most definitely be viewing my hometown in a new and completely different light." J. Ross; Retail Sales Intern |
